Product Description
A chilling story of human depravity and ultimate justice, told for the first time by an eyewitness court reporter for the Nuremberg war crimes trial of Nazi doctors. This is the account of 23 men torturing and killing by experiment in the name of scientific research and patriotism. Doctors from Hell includes trial transcripts that have not been easily available to the general public and previously unpublished photographs used as evidence in the trial.

The author describes the experience of being in bombed-out, dangerous, post-war Nuremberg, where she lived for two years while working on the trial. Once a Nazi sympathizer tossed bombs into the dining room of the hotel where she lived moments before she arrived for dinner. She takes us into the courtroom to hear the dramatic testimony and see the reactions of the defendants to the proceedings. This landmark trial resulted in the establishment of the Nuremberg code, which sets the guidelines for medical research involving human beings. A significant addition to the literature on World War II and the Holocaust, medical ethics, human rights, and the barbaric depths to which human beings can descend.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent easy read!   August 7, 2010
chris reese (saint petersburg, florida, US)
This is an excellent well written book that is based on the facts of the dr's war criminal trials! I found it highly educating and recommend this book to everyone as a historical reference or as just a guide to understanding things and events that took place in the death camps. EXCELLENT!!!

5 out of 5 stars Doctors "do no harm"?   June 11, 2010
Reinhard Frommann (Berlin)
Most people are aware that one of the fundamental moral principles for all doctors is to "do no harm," a principle which can be traced back to Hippocrates and the very beginnings of the Western medical tradition. Unfortunately, not all doctors heed this precept: the worst and most extreme examples can be found in the history of Nazi Germany, where not only doctors, but the entire medical profession, appears to have become a twisted mirror image of what it should have been.

5 out of 5 stars Doctors from Hell   February 11, 2010

This book is a must read for anyone that is human. This is the most disgusting book of all time. We need to never forget the things that were done to these people.

1 out of 5 stars BORING   January 29, 2010

This book is a very dry mix of court transcripts and clinical descriptions. It was a difficult and boring read of what should be a fascinating subject. I would prefer to read the STORY, not clincal and legal descriptions. I'm sure there must be good books that are captivating and easy to read on this subject but this is not one of them. This book was a waste of money and a huge disappointment. I will continue to look for a book that is better written and tells the story in a more flowing rather than clinical writing style.

3 out of 5 stars Good book   December 21, 2009

An interesting read, but it is written more as an autobiography than a research of Nazi experiments (I really couldn't care less about the court reporter's plane ride to Nuremburg - I needed facts for a college research paper)... But it was still an enlightening book.
